Evel Knievel is Dead

November 30th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

I am in severe mourning.

The man I gain much of my inspiration from has passed away. Evel Knievel is Dead. From the LBN E-lert:

“Daredevil Evel Knievel dead at 69: Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose exploits made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69. Knievel’s death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs. Knievel had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one of his bone-shattering spills.

Evil Knievel was an icon for many young daredevils. May his spirit of the adrenaline-fueled life live on in the hearts of wacknuts everywhere.

Ouch Manifesto

November 30th, 2007 | Category: Selling the Dang Thing, The Show

Ruthy Bolton Holyfield nieceI don’t want to write this post. I don’t even want to write the next sentence.

The deal we thought we had with the big 5 network. The deal we’ve been talking to them about for almost 3 months… THE deal where we were surrounded by a table full of six network types by our second meeting… Is dead. It’s not happening.

The words of D. were “it’s a pass.”

Shite.

He said that “they didn’t know what to do with it.” Which, we’ve been in business long enough to know, is a simple brush off. The show is so well developed and packaged at this point that there is little to “figure out.”

Anyway, another 3 months, another dead deal. TV is a factory folks, watch your backs.

When it comes down to who makes the decisions, it’s as corporate there as any bank, mortgage firm, or widget manufacturer.

I’m losing patience with these fuckers.

Manifesto lives regardless of any deal.

Good News

November 18th, 2007 | Category: Manifesto The documentary, Manifesto: Television, Production

That’s what’s happening.

Famed Hollywood publicist Michael Levine has come onboard MANIFESTO: Television. He will be providing publicity services for the film.

From his bio:

Called by USA Today, “one of Hollywood’s brightest and most respected executives,” Levine has been responsible for public relations campaigns for, among others, Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Charlton Heston, Linda Evans, Jon Voight, Suzanne Somers, Demi Moore and Michael J. Fox. His clients have run from movie & TV stars, to sports heroes, to music figures, comics, producers and multi-national corporations. ”

He is the author of Guerilla P.R. among other best-selling tomes about modern public relations.

Need we say more? Well, maybe so. Let’s just say it’s amazing to have him onboard.

We will be shooting some of our meetings behind the scenes so you can see him in action. Can you dig it?

Manifesto SoCal Blogger Contest

November 06th, 2007 | Category: Issues, Manifesto The documentary

THE MANIFESTO BLOGGER CONTEST

First there was the vlogger contest. Which proved to us that vloggers have a hard time stepping away from the mirror, err… camera for any period of time.

Now there is the Manifesto blogger contest.

It’s time for bloggers to showup those lazy vloggers!!!

WHAT IT IS

Manifesto is deeply interested in the work that blogs are doing covering activism related to the wide variety of social justice issues that we face (including environmental, animal welfare, human rights, health care, indigenous rights, civil rights, etc).

In the spirit of engaging bloggers and their readers in their local, physical communities, Manifesto is launching the SoCal Blogger Contest.

We are looking for bloggers who are committed to affecting change in their communities. If you are a concerned blogger, we are looking for you.

HOW TO ENTER:

1. Bloggers must make an open challenge to their readers to affect change in their communities.

2. Bloggers must ask their readers to document these efforts in some way, by journal/text, photo, and video (if available).

3. Blog readers should fill out and mail in the submission form and video (if available) to the address on the form.

4. Finally, blog readers should email all documentation (text, links, and photos) of these efforts to bloggercontest (at) manifestotv.com. *Be sure to ask your readers to mention that they heard about the challenge through your blog.*

Blogs which have concerns over net neutrality, civil liberties, and the future of television are especially urged to submit.

Up to four winning Southern California based bloggers and selected readers will be filmed and included in our feature length documentary “MANIFESTO: Television.”
